Research Projects:

Fire Detection System
I have worked on the methodology and simulation of an intelligent fire detection system, which was also used as the main part of my master’s thesis. This system primarily uses wireless sensor networks and fuzzy logic to make efficient and intelligent decisions. It consumes less energy to transmit various messages between wireless nodes, reduces the traffic on the network and consequently prolongs the network lifetime. As a result, I extracted several papers from my thesis and published an extended version of the thesis as a paperback book. The source codes of the simulation for some of these works are available at https://github.com/m-samadi/state-sensor-fuzzy/ and https://github.com/m-samadi/FSB-system/. The most important publications from my thesis are the following:
  • Static Three-Dimensional Fuzzy Routing Based on the Receiving Probability in Wireless Sensor Networks, Computers, 2013.
  • Determining the State of the Sensor Nodes Based on Fuzzy Theory in WSNs, International Journal of Computers Communications & Control, 2014.
  • Dispatching Rescue and Support Teams to Events Using Ad Hoc Networks and Fuzzy Decision Making in Rescue Applications, Journal of Control and Systems Engineering, 2015.
  • DFRTP: Dynamic 3D Fuzzy Routing Based on Traffic Probability in Wireless Sensor Networks, IET Wireless Sensor Systems, 2016.
  • FSB-System: A Detection System for Fire, Suffocation, and Burn Based on Fuzzy Decision Making, MCDM, and RGB Model in Wireless Sensor Networks, Wireless Personal Communications, 2019.
  • Navigation Control of Agent Automobiles Using Wireless Sensor Network (thesis document), Islamic Azad University, Tabriz Branch, 2013, http://dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.25397.19686/.

ClimateRobo Robot
I have implemented an autonomous intelligent mobile robot for climate purposes, called ClimateRobo, to monitor the weather situation according to environmental information. It is composed of various electromechanical devices, such as ATmega32 microcontroller and different types of sensors. Several intelligent techniques, including utility function, supervised machine learning, and fuzzy decision system, are used to determine and notify the weather conditions via LCD, LED, and audio alarm. The robot also detects and tackles stationary obstacles with six reflective sensors installed on the left, front and right sides in different detection scenarios. A prototype of this robot is simulated and implemented, where the source code of the implementation, the hardware architecture, and the working process are available at https://github.com/m-samadi/ClimateRobo/. Furthermore, details of this robot are mentioned in the following publication:
  • Implementation of an Autonomous Intelligent Mobile Robot for Climate Purposes, International Journal of Ad Hoc and Ubiquitous Computing, 2019.
Fan System
I have implemented an automatic knowledge-based fan system that uses Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) to perform the intelligent operations. The system is equipped with various sensors suitable for acquiring ambient temperature, gas, and light data. The AHP and FIS components determine the fan speed efficiently and intelligently. The prototype of this system is built to observe the simulation performance and effectiveness from experiments. The source codes of the simulation and implementation phases are available at https://github.com/m-samadi/AutoFanSys/. The overviews of the hardware architecture, simulation, and implementation for this system are available at https://youtu.be/CX_pJdONjx4/, https://youtu.be/P8k7gB5gGNc/ and https://youtu.be/9YmFvlkfXWc/.

The source codes of the simulation for some of these works are available at https://github.com/m-samadi/SML-controller-speed/, https://github.com/m-samadi/SML-controller-distance/ and https://github.com/m-samadi/ANFIS-model/. These proposals are presented in the following publications:

These techniques can be applied to various applications, such as cloud systems and robot navigation. The source codes for the simulations are available at https://github.com/m-samadi/BBDM-method/ and https://github.com/m-samadi/T-star-algorithm/. They are presented separately in two publications, as follows:

Task Mapping in Parallel Applications
I have worked on improving the performance of task-to-thread and task-to-accelerator mappings in parallel applications running on multi-core and heterogenous platforms, as the main part of my PhD thesis. These mappings are performed using heuristics, multi-criteria decision analysis, and intelligent approaches. I have implemented task-to-thread mapping using LLVM, replacing the default LLVM scheduler with the proposed mapping. These approaches can improve the parallel execution of high-workload programs, such as artificial intelligence and data analytics applications, in critical systems, such as the Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems. The source codes of the simulation and implementation processes are available at https://github.com/m-samadi/heuristic-mapping/, https://github.com/m-samadi/heuristic-scheduling/, https://github.com/m-samadi/heuristic-mapping-LLVM/, https://github.com/m-samadi/heuristic-DAG-schedulability/, https://github.com/m-samadi/improved-heuristic-mapping/, https://github.com/m-samadi/task-to-accelerator-mapping/ and https://github.com/m-samadi/fuzzy-mapping/. The proposed task-to-thread mapping has been also applied to the European AMPERE project, where the source code of the implementation is available at https://gitlab.bsc.es/mhm.samadi/. The details of these approaches are presented in the following publications:
  • Heuristic-based Task-to-Thread Mapping in Multi-Core Processors, 2022 IEEE 27th International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA), 2022.
  • Time-predictable task-to-thread mapping in multi-core processors, Journal of Systems Architecture, 2024.
